I rented a bike through a rental platform and had a very disappointing experience. I paid €86 upfront (approximately €66 for the bike plus around €20 in platform and insurance fees). Shortly after picking it up, the bike felt unsafe — the steering was pulling left and right, requiring considerable effort to correct, which is risky in city traffic. I returned the bike immediately and reached out to the platform with photos, a video, and a detailed explanation. The owner insisted the bike was fine. The platform responded by stating they were 'just the intermediary' and that the payout had already been sent to the owner. Consequently, they refused to refund the rental fee and only offered to return about €18-20 in fees as a 'goodwill' gesture. In my opinion, returning an unsafe bike promptly should not result in still having to pay for the rental. This experience highlighted that customer protection can be quite limited in peer-to-peer rentals. I will not be using this service again.
