Recently stayed at Lake Windermere, and was disappointed considering how much we paid for the room. Turned up to find that the only parking option was a £20 valet service which for a one night stay just felt like you were being completely ripped off, made worse that when we left the car took ages to come and when my partner went outside to see if she could see the car, found the valet driver in our car with the window down, stopped down the road having a chat with one of the groundsmen! The room had a lovely view but if you took that away it was honestly not dissimilar to rooms I’ve stayed in at the premier inn. The wall and doors had marks on them, and we had a shower not a bath- not usually something I’d be too upset about but the booking said there would be a bath and once again the room was not cheap! It was also far far smaller than the pictures made it look. Lastly, sometimes you go to a hotel and the staff do everything to make the stay feel special. I did not feel this from the staff. No little extras- for example we asked for an espresso with breakfast and was told it would be a surcharge at bar prices, and the breakfast portion was very small! I give two stars rather than one because the pool/ sauna/ steam room and ice room was great. However, I think you could get way more for your money elsewhere in the lakes. Would not return.
