Review Time
I find this website a little clunky to use. The advertising makes it appear that one can talk easily with the AI but in fact that is only a small part of the website. Other parts require pressing a button to repeat vocabulary and frequently the AI doesn't hear what one says and asks incessantly to repeat the word. The English of this system isn't the best either, and often is awkward or simply incorrect.
In some cases, the app present several errors:
Some excerciwes werent update
Some buttons were failing and didn't allow to finish the section properly
The AI avatar:
After a while, the voice started to get distorted.
It didn't catch the repetitions
It repeat the same sentence several times without asking any change for move on and improve the wording
Other days some numbers started to appear in between sentences
Other time the same sentence was the improving
Awesome way to learn by speaking. As a language teacher and a lifelong learner of multiple languages, it makes sense to emphasize the speaking over random vocabulary acquisition and grammar lessons.
I was unable to log in, and the password reset did not appear in a timely manner; by the time it did, it had expired. Their service responded "in their leisure" on a "medium" level of importance. After three times, I gave up and cancelled. I have already lost 2 days of my 14-day "special offer".
In addition, they do not inform you that if you pay from the USA, you will be charged an international transaction fee. I was willing to pay that on the initial payment, but not monthly or for every renewal. There was no option to change the payment method (since I have a CC with such fees). Customer service confirmed that they cannot change the payment method. So overall, it seems this is a very amateur startup. Of course, I was never refunded for the "special offer". Luckily, it was only $1.99.
All is ok, but when I need to repeat words, the tutor doesn’t hear them well, and I have to repeat them too many times. This is very tiring and demotivating, as it prevents me from moving forward
Difficult to navigate. Started off at far too high a level . Stuck on the AI powered tutor whose words are not in sync. With his lips. Asked to repeat the words again and again with the audio failing in the end got fed up and asked for my money back
No response to my queries. I have attached the incorrect lessons in an email and they respond to anything. I emailed them over and over, but they do not respond to the queries. I have asked for them to stop taking funds from my account; there has been no response.
It is definately not for an intermediate beginner. You have to have a fairly comprehensive understanding of the language. My biggest frustration is that your pronunciation must be absolutely perfect, if it’s not, the program will make you repeat forever. You will never go on. I repeated a word 30 times and it just kept telling me to slow down. I said it so slow that it didn’t like that either. I couldn’t ever finish a lesson. If I could return this, I would. Not helpful. I contacted the company and they said there is no fix for this problem. (Also, when in Italy, my pronunciation was good enough that they all thought I was Italian.)
