I have been casually asked to provide photo ID on vinted. After some digging between Vinted and Mangopay's jargon-filled T&C's, if I do share this, it will be held for ten years and I can not request and have it deleted. They also do not openly share which third parties they share my sensitive data with (though I am sure it is somewhere listed via another link). UPDATE: after an AI search, one may be the company that just settled after misusing biometric data... This four starts and not five.I have raised that I am not comfortable and have offered to confirm my identity in a other way (video call, telephone). Ironically, if someone has hacked into my life to sell a handful of kids old things, I'm pretty sure they could access my driver's licence, making the entire thing quite pointless. UPDATE: This was needed as my account activity had changed and I'd had to cancel and reupload items after illness. Once they ask, they are not legally allowed to waive this.Hopefully, a video call to show my ID will be enough to release my funds (a whopping £100). If not, I have to decide wether to upload my ID onto a company's app that says in it's T&C's that anything I upload it can use for AI training, and that admit they could be hacked so I shouldn't share anything too personal, should have my most sensitive data for the next decade - well, them and their third parties. I wonder if my bank can help...UPDATE: My bank couldn't have (the law requires independent verification) but Google Gemini did, and explained the law pretty well. So I uploaded using their tips and it was a super simple process and accepted first time. I do not love that it was needed, and that sales were allowed to complete without agreeing to this, but it was actually ok. Unless I am subsequently the victim of identity theft, then I will reinstate the one star.
