We spent several weeks in discussions with MangoPay, evaluating them as a potential payment partner for our marketplace. Initially, everything looked promising — both from a technical and strategic perspective.
However, the biggest issue came with pricing transparency.
During our calls, we were clearly told that a €5,000 minimum monthly revenue (MMR) was possible (which before it was even lower). At no point was it communicated that the final proposal would suddenly be €10,000 per month, effectively doubling what had been discussed.
This was extremely disappointing, especially after investing significant time in detailed conversations and planning.
What makes this even more frustrating is that MangoPay’s own messaging promotes:
flexible pricing
usage-based models
transparency
“no surprises”
Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite. A fixed €10,000 minimum contradicts the idea of flexibility and usage-based pricing.
From a product standpoint, MangoPay seems solid. But from a commercial and communication perspective, this felt misleading and inconsistent.
Unless there is genuine flexibility in pricing, it’s difficult to recommend them — especially for startups or growing marketplaces that rely on predictable and scalable cost structures.
