Metropolis Parking: WARNING – DO NOT ENTER. These parking facilities (at malls, etc.) are extortion scams. Let’s start with a Google search of Metropolis Parking reviews: “Overcharging/Hidden Fees, Phantom Billing, Difficult Disputing, Equipment Errors”. Based on my personal experience I would add the following descriptions: Entrapment, false imprisonment, extortion of personal information, fraudulent and unauthorized charging of credit card, and attempted cell phone hacking. This is what happened to me: I was traveling and pulled off the freeway for some rest. Saw a shopping mall off the exit. There was a parking garage with a “Parking” sign, and no other signs. Pulled into the parking entrance to find a dark, long, pathway that was blocked on both sides (so you could not exit or divert). At the end of the path there was a gate and sign that said All Payments Must be made by cell phone. Heck, I do not use my cell phone for any financial transactions, especially at an unknown location. I started backing up to get out, but other cars came from behind me and started honking. So I was trapped. I drove ahead to the gate and waited. The gate opened, I parked and went into the mall, searching for payment information or assistance. I saw a sign for “how to pay”. This is what Metropolis wanted: Scan a QR code, download an app, sign up and create a password, enter your name, address, phone, email, and car license plate number!!! HE!! NO. There was a customer service number and I called. I was told this is the only method of payment, otherwise I couldn’t leave the mall! I talked to two other people. Finally, one of them said they would send me a link so I can pay online with a credit card, BUT as long as I promise to pay within 24 hours (otherwise, blah, blah, blah – I was too angry to remember or care at that point). So I drove out of the parking lot to an exit gate, which would not open. Cars piled up behind me. There was a different customer service phone number posted, so I called. I was finally able to exit the parking structure, but with the threat of paying within 24 hours, or else … (they had camera images of my car and license plate). So, I received the payment link on my phone and paid with credit card. A few minutes later I get an email from my bank saying there is ANOTHER charge of $9.99 from Metropolis. I called again and I was told that this was a fee to verify my identity !!! STAY AWAY FROM Metropolis Parking.
