I work for a nonprofit that hired them to set up staging for a concert at a church. During the setup, their technician damaged the church's grand piano. Initially, they were apologetic and requested a quote for repairs. When the estimate exceeded $3k, they suddenly distanced themselves and flatly refused to contribute anything. Despite their technician causing damage to a church property, they chose not to take responsibility and instead shifted the burden onto a nonprofit charity. It's appalling. Similar to another case, they referenced a clause in the rental agreement that absolved them of liability except for "willful misconduct." This certainly felt like willful misconduct to me, and our attorney concurred. Unfortunately, our attorney also warned that defending this could be more costly than the actual repair, especially if our insurance covered it. To ensure the church was treated fairly, I filed a claim, and our insurance will cover it. I cannot believe a for-profit organization would behave so poorly towards a church and a nonprofit. Disappointing. Who would want to engage with a company that might cause damage and refuse to take responsibility?
