I was given the opportunity to start…

I was given the opportunity to start volunteering for this charity. After being of work and finding it hard to get back into things this gave me the encouragement and boost that I needed to get back into things. The founder and other volunteers go above and beyond for the charity and arent given the recognition that they solely deserve

Don't volunteer here.

I volunteered with this charity for a year and I want to advise anyone who is thinking about volunteering with this charity? Don't do it. Everything started off fine when I first started volunteering with this charity but within my last 3 months of volunteering I was overworked, I felt like I wasn't getting the credit for the hard work I was doing. I didn't feel part of the team anymore and it became quite clear that I wasn't when the four other main team volunteers including the founder who all volunteered in the office decided to plan an evening out and I wasn't invited because it was "girls only."As I was the only male who was part of the main team of volunteers, this meant I was the only volunteer that was excluded. Given the fact that I am autistic and spent a-lot of my childhood and adolescence excluded, this brought back a lot of trauma and bad memories for me. It also impacted my mental wellbeing. It also took for me to ask the founder why I hadn't been invited for me to get an answer. The following day I handed in my resignation as that was breaking point. The founder demanded that I hand the keys back in person and not via post and threatened to take things further if I did not hand the keys back in by a certain day and time. I was also made to pay £17.50 for a zipper hoodie after I asked about my expenses and if I would still receive these. This shouldn't have been the case as it should have been classed and was a reasonable adjustment. I had come back to volunteer after having major surgery and as I was unable to lift my arms above my head, I was unable to wear my pullover hoodie. It was for this very reason that I had to ask for a zipper hoodie. So for anyone thinking about volunteering with this charity? Don't, just don't. I am not the only volunteer who has left the charity due to being treated quite badly.

A literal lifesaver

Absolutely amazing group of people. Excellent resource, care and support. This is the only space where I feel seen and not judged. This group has been there for me at times when no-one else was and when it seemed too difficult to continue navigating the challenges of living with Fibro.

More than Fibro

So glad I got involved with this organisation. The support from the team as well as the members is invaluable if you have Fibro. I can’t thank this group enough for being there for me and the help they provide.
