I have left a review previously and am doing a follow up now. I have been a patient at Newson Health for two years and have paid them over £1000 of my hard earned cash. I have a fibroid and bleeding on HRT, I had been investigated for uterine cancer several times due to this and I was at the end of my tether and felt suicidal. I couldn’t see a specialist on the NHS and my GP has very little knowledge of menopause or HRT so, due to their high profile in the industry, I consulted Newson Health. The first doctor I saw was friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. She advised me to increase my progesterone to stop the bleeding. This didn’t work. She then left the company and I was issued a second doctor who didn’t inspire confidence at all; kept looking at her watch during our consultation as if she’d rather be somewhere else, then betrayed my confidence in the letter she wrote to my GP. Her advice was to increase both estrogen (via Estrogel) and progesterone. This caused horrendous flooding-type bleeding. She said I could go up to 7 pumps of Estrogel a day. She also suggested I introduce testosterone but couldn’t explain how that would help me. However, she was easily able to quote the cost. I felt like I was no further forward.I then left a review of my experience with the company and, because of this negative feedback, one of the directors kindly gave me a free consultation. She also advised me to increase my Estrogel (to 4 pumps initially but posited that i could go up to 7 pumps daily - the highest licensed dose for Estrogel is 4 pumps a day), change to cyclogest pessaries for my progesterone and introduce testosterone to the mix, as this was a ‘feel good’ hormone. Again, this led to flooding and clotting to the extent that I couldn’t leave the house. I also experienced high levels of irritability and anxiety, I struggled to sleep at night, I was constantly exhausted, my body felt heavy and sluggish, I developed acne and mouth ulcers and generally felt very unwell. I now know that, if you have fibroids, high estrogen is the last thing you want as estrogen feeds the fibroids and makes them grow and bleed. I am now working with a gynaecologist who is also a menopause specialist and she has put me on the lowest dose of estrogen I can get away with to help relieve my menopause symptoms, along with the lowest dose of progesterone and all seems to be going ok. I feel more knowledgeable about my health and like I’m moving forward, not backwards. If I’d stayed with Newson Health, I would have been on 7 pumps of Estrogel a day and very unwell and housebound. I understand that, for women without additional pathology, Newson Health can be helpful. However, over prescribing hormones is concerning. Their advice just appears to be putting women on higher and higher levels of estrogen. I’m leaving this review because, as women, we are being given a raw deal. The NHS won’t help us and we are reliant on private ‘specialists’ to help us and stop us from feeling suicidal and unwell. The money that I paid to Newson Health got me nowhere.
