They used to be very selective about who they insured so rates were significantly lower than other carriers. Not the case anymore. I recently inquired about my auto policy rate increase and was told that everybody’s rates were increased to cover claims. I haven’t had anything more than a parking ticket in almost 20 years but my rate was increased to pay for other peoples claims. I guess they have to pay for all those commercials too. On top of that, I was told that they weren’t “allowed” to reduce my homeowners coverage so that it is more affordable. $440k to rebuild an 1100 sq ft bungalow? $44k to rebuild a shed? Really? I seriously doubt it. I’m being forced to pay for more coverage than I want, or need. It’s like stealing. Looks like it’s time to do some policy shopping
