We bought a dormer bungalow in 2002. No damp issues, but it had been owned by smokers and needed ripping through completely. The survey mentioned that the property was partially single glazed and the wooden french doors were a security risk and needed replacing. And it was COLD.We double glazed right thorough, had cavity wall insulation fitted, ripped out the bathroom and installed a decent shower. Within months our house was running with condensation. Our bedroom had wallpaper was peeling off the walls and there was black mould around the windows. We tried insulating, it just moved the coldest place in the house. Recently I googled, "Damp bungalow" and found nuaire. OMG. We've had it installed for around 3 weeks. (We've also fitted at better extractor fan in the bathroom - turns out the electrician had fitted a £30 one that was USELESS.) We have dry rooms, checking the humidity monitors is a house sport. Our damp bedroom used to have 80% plus humidity and is down to around 60%. The lounge is now so dry we've considering a bowl of water in front of the log burner. The wallpaper around the bedroom window is finally dry. That has never happened in winter the whole time we've lived here. Drawback? There is a small, very localised cool stream of air in the hall. I don't spend any time there, it's a thoroughfare.We are very pleased.
