On January 5th, I submitted a trade-in order for my device and was offered a pre-check amount of £55. After they received the phone, however, I was told the offer was £0.00 due to an alleged MDM lock. They rated the phone as being in excellent condition, but claimed this lock was present without any prior notification or agreement. I had to research what an MDM lock was, discovering it's typically applied to business phones, not personal ones, especially those from the service provider since 2018. They didn't document the issue properly, and I had to contact the recycling service to uncover this supposed lock. It seems suspicious that I never had any indication of an MDM lock during my time with the device. After fulfilling my contract, I believed the phone was mine to trade in. Either the assessment was flawed, or they misled me to avoid compensation. They are returning the phone, and if there is indeed an MDM lock, it was not present when I purchased it or during my two years of use. I plan to take it to another retailer instead. Upon receiving the phone back, I researched how to check for an MDM lock and found no evidence of one. It feels like they misrepresented the situation to avoid paying me. If this happened to me, how many others have faced the same issue? I find them completely untrustworthy and would advise others to steer clear.
