I recently purchased a domain from One.com only to find that it was already in a "Redemption" stage. At no point during the checkout process was this clearly disclosed, nor was there a warning that my payment did not actually secure the domain registration.
After taking my money, One.com then informed me that I would need to pay an additional "redemption fee" to actually receive what I had already paid for. When I chose not to pay this extra fee and requested a refund for the undelivered service, they outright refused, stating that the initial payment covered a subscription that I cannot even use because the domain was never registered to me in the first place.
Essentially, they accepted payment for a domain they knew they could not deliver, and then used that as a trap to demand further fees. They have explicitly refused to refund the $4.99, admitting in writing that my payment did not result in a registered domain.
This is a highly misleading and predatory practice. I would advise anyone to be extremely cautious when purchasing domains here, as you may find yourself paying for "redemption fees" on domains that should have been clearly flagged as unavailable during the purchase process.
I am currently escalating this as a "Service Not Received" dispute with my financial institution.
