Very frustrating experience with the OnePay Cash Rewards Credit Card issued by Synchrony.
The first month I had the card, I used it right away, only for the card to be blocked because they suspected fraud. I immediately called customer service and was asked to submit a facial selfie and a copy of my driver’s license.
However, the situation didn’t stop there. Over the next two days, I kept receiving more emails asking me to verify my identity again, this time requesting a utility bill or a bank statement. At that point it started to feel excessive and unreasonable.
Every time I called, I was connected with representatives overseas whose accents were extremely difficult to understand, which made the whole situation even more frustrating.
Now I’ve been told that I will receive a letter in the mail with a verification code. Mail? This is not the 1980s. In a time when most companies can verify identity instantly through secure digital methods, requiring customers to wait for a letter feels incredibly outdated.
This level of repeated security verification, especially right after opening the account and already submitting identification, feels unnecessary and poorly handled. I’m honestly considering canceling the card because I don’t feel comfortable having my card randomly blocked without a clear reason.
