Defective furniture, major delivery delays, and lies.

Bear with me, this is long, but you will be glad to not end up dealing with these crooks that sell Poor Quality, Defective, and extremely delayed delivery furniture. In January I ordered a coffee table which had a 45 delivery window. A couple of weeks later, I decided to order another item (buffet), which too had a 45 day delivery window. I was contacted by John in early March to advise that there is about a 2 week delay from the manufacturer due to the holiday period – sure not a problem. He also advised that my 2nd ordered item would arrive at the same time if I wanted to wait for that as well, which I assumed then would be a little longer of a wait. I wasn’t in a rush at that point and was fine to wait for both. Come early April, no update as yet – we are now beyond the 2 extra weeks as well. I get a delivery notification around the 19th of April to let me know that my item is on it’s way (89 days after ordering) – I didn’t pay attention to the “item” as I was advised both would be delivered together. On the day of delivery, I receive my coffee table… no 2nd item. Ok, so I leave it for a couple of days thinking it will be with me then. No contact, no communication from John or anyone at the store in the meantime around this. I open up the box a couple of days later, lo and behold, it’s a coffee table with no legs, none in the drawers, none in the box. So I have to get in touch with them to have the legs sent out – that took over a week to organise. So we’re well over double the initial ETA date. To top it all off, it turns out the 2nd item someone forgot to order – yet I was advised it would come at the same time as the first item. How it went from there’s a delay and both will come together, to it wasn’t ordered, is beyond me. It then took 3 weeks, and a credit card dispute from me to get my money back on the second item. Subsequent to that, I was then travelling and had no time to put anything together. Upon returning from travelling, I decided it was time to get the legs screwed on and start using this table. To preface this next part, I put together a dining table, dining chairs, a queen sized bed, a corner chaise, bedside tables, outdoor furniture, etc, all purchased from various suppliers. This item had 0 markings on where screws/legs are meant to be placed, and 0 instruction documents to give a guide. So, after screwing in the 4 legs, I turn it over and as I lift it to put into place, the screws on 1 leg completely fall out. I reach out to OHH and am told I didn’t screw it in the wood. Being gas lit like this is not a great way to start this off, so I leave it at that. I then move the leg to a slightly different spot, the screws just keep turning over and over. I make a review to which John replies offering to send someone to fix them in place. At this point there are so many screw holes that I find the item not to be fit for purpose and structurally not sound. The entire base is wood and covered with various materials, so by moving the leg it means the other legs have to be moved and I’ve got a coffee table that is useless. I was subsequently offered a handy man to come out and “fix” the item – there’s no fixing at this point really. I raised with the Department of Fair Trading, but OHH decided they would send a handy man out instead of remedying a coffee table that has no structural quality, and if their handy man decided where he places the legs is suitable, then I would have to pay $250 for it. Ultimately, I told the Dept of Fair Trading to leave it, and am now preparing to file this at NCAT. The time spent over this is probably more than what it’s worth, but I am not going to let this go and intend to take this as far as possible, and to receive compensation for the filings.
