These boots were made for...falling apart?

On November 25, 2021, I bought a pair of Pajar winter boots for $283.35—because nothing says “Canadian winter readiness” like dropping nearly $300 on footwear that should be built to survive at least a couple of snowflakes. Fast-forward to mid-January 2023, and the lining inside these boots was deteriorating faster than my patience. They became so uncomfortable they gave me blisters the size of moguls. To complete the ensemble, one zipper also broke. Keep in mind: these boots saw a maximum of six months of wear. I’ve owned cheaper boots that lasted longer… and caused significantly less emotional damage. On January 19th, 2023, I contacted Pajar customer service through their online chat, which felt eerily like stepping into the plot of that TV show The Chair Company—you know, the one where you start wondering whether the business is actually a front for something else, because no legitimate company could operate with this level of chaos and lack of accountability. Multiple days of back-and-forth (on a live chat - they took DAYS to respond on a live chat), photo requests, and head-scratching responses later, they triumphantly announced they’d fix the zipper—but only if I paid for it, because I had owned the boots for “more than six months.”They only stand by their workmanship for SIX MONTHS?!? These are $300 boots, not a toothbrush! They then claimed the boots were “almost three years old.” Absolutely false. I have receipts. Screenshots. Probably even security-cam footage of me clicking “purchase.”I explained (again) that the real issue was the deteriorating lining that made the boots unwearable. And no, it is not reasonable to expect someone to mail their only pair of winter boots across provinces in January and wander around like a frostbitten pioneer while waiting for an undetermined repair timeline.I asked to speak to a manager. Denied. I proposed three reasonable solutions:• A refund• An exchange• Or allowing me to take the boots to a local repair shop at Pajar’s expenseAll three were shut down without hesitation and I was told they were doing me a favour by offering me a repair at my own expense. Oh! My bad! Was I supposed to say thank you?In the end, the boots fell apart, the customer service fell short, and I fell into a spiral wondering whether Pajar Canada is a footwear company, a front, or just a performance-art piece about disappointment.
