I`ve owned paramo for over twenty years and they are still going strong, so I decided to treat myself to a new Cascada Jacket. Big mistake, I suffer from poor circulation in my arms and hands so heat retention is paramount for me. The new Cascada is a shadow of its former self in every way. The most important aspect of a jacket is to keep you warm & dry, the original Paramo achieved this by using multiple layers in each jacket trapping air in between each layer, the new jackets have far fewer layers. Even adding more base layers under the jacket doesn`t achieve as good a result. In short this cost cutting exercise will cost lives on a mountain, if you`re constantly generating heat while moving you`ll be ok however if you get stuck or injure you`re self in sub zero temperatures you`re chances of survival is significantly reduced. Don`t get me wrong in my opinion Paramo is still better than Gor-Tex as latter sucks the heat away from you`re body. Even so I`ll be surprised if the Mountain Rescue Volunteers still use them.
