The pros: I arrived and returned safely.The cons: I ultimately had to find my own accommodations due to several significant missteps:I requested a ceiling price for hotel accommodations but was sent options nearly double my stated limit.I was told the hotel would hold $100 for the duration of my stay, but upon arrival, I was informed it was $150 per night—a major difference in budgeting.After notifying the agent, I was told to expect a follow-up email to help improve the remainder of my trip. That email never arrived.When I was ready to book ground transportation, the price had nearly doubled from the initial quote. While I understand rates fluctuate, the agent sent the new booking without acknowledging or explaining the increase. Only after I questioned it did she offer a small discount.I initially expressed interest in the Four Seasons Paris. The second quote I received was over $8,000 for four nights—almost triple the first quote. When I raised the issue, the response was surprise rather than acknowledgment or proactive communication.The ground transportation that was arranged required me to locate the driver in a large, unfamiliar parking garage. It took 45 minutes to connect because the driver made no effort to find me.Since my return, I have not received a single follow-up or courtesy check-in from the agency.For context, I’ve traveled internationally for over 35 years and typically book luxury accommodations through agencies such as Virtuoso. This time, I chose to support a local Black-owned agency and work within a tighter budget. Unfortunately, this experience reinforced an old saying: you get what you pay for.
