Import tax not communicated at all - bad customer experience

Be aware if you are purchasing a gift to be shipped to another country. I purchased a necklace for my mom to be delivered to another country 2 weeks ago and after checking the tracking today, I realized it was help in this country for 2 days because a payment was needed. After contacting Pearl Paradise's customer support, they told me that there is an import tax charge to be paid for the package to be released. At no time during the purchase process nor after the purchase was made on their site did I get notified of this. this is very misleading at best. This is adding about $40 to the original price but the worst part is not even this but the fact that if I did not check the tracking, how would I have known that the package was held? DHL and this company need to communicate to make sure they provide decent service. And Pearl Paradise needs to be transparent about this fee and add this as a note during the purchase process which is common decency for their customers given the price we pay for the products. Now I have to wait for someone to send me an invoice to pay so they can release the package. What a terrible process/experience and quite antiquated I might add.
