‼️***BEWARE***‼️Wildly unethical company if you’re a renter!!! Please read this review if you’re a renter with a service animal or pet!⭐️POSTED REVIEW ON GOOGLE W/ PICS⭐️Requests for more information regarding my Assistance Animal letter were sent to me 4(!) times despite being directly from my real-life doctor and PetScreening never contacting the Dr’s office to verify authenticity (until the 4th letter). Definitely feels like PetScreening is violating some ADA laws or playing fast & loose with them at least.Additionally, I noticed it wasn’t until the verbiage in my letter virtually exactly matched the verbiage from one of the Assistance Animal letter mills that exist online that PetScreening approved my letter. Mind you, the letter was from my actual doctor who knows me & my condition(s) well. I suspect that PetScreening is in bed with one (or several) Assistance Animal letter mills.Which brings me to my next point: they are quite obviously in bed with various other “renter-oriented” businesses & will use unethical marketing practices to get you on those business’s email lists. When going through the application process on their website you are taken to a page with three different businesses listed & check boxes to get more marketing information. The check boxes are auto-populated when you land on the page. Be sure to uncheck these boxes so these con artists don’t profit off you further!Which then brings me to my 4th point! What you probably WEREN’T told is that each pet application (!) is $25.00.But wait! There’s more! It’s also $15 a year to renew your pet on their website!Oh, you thought that was my last point?! WRONG!When you do just a modicum of research on PetScreening you’ll find that they are baaaarely hiding the fact that they exist solely to squeeze renters for more money. It’s plastered everywhere on their website.Which kind of brings us back to the whole lack of transparency issue! Another thing that likely wasn’t mentioned to you as a renter is that your property management’s pet-related decisions are now based on PetScreening’s proprietary FIDO score (a risk score of your animal). And PetScreening prides themselves on making sure you as a renter don’t know what that FIDO score is or how to decrease your FIDO/risk score. I could only find one mention of the FIDO score on PetScreening’s renter-facing site and no mention of what information increases/decreases your FIDO score. I would assume it’s things like adding in vaccination records, age, etc. but again, I have to just guess since PetScreening is not transparent with this information. And in case you’re thinking that PetScreening actually does anything remotely important like verifying your animal is registered with your county or city government? THEY DON’T.I wanted to see what kind of revenue my property managers might be making off me so I went to the Grifter’s…errr…sorry, PetScreening’s revenue generation calculator. For a 10-unit complex, they estimated an additional $5440 could be made by a property management company. Apparently 1/3-1/2 of our income that the average renter is spending in rent is still not sufficient to keep the landlords content. If you are a property management company, I implore you to reconsider using PetScreening. Their business model is unethical and does not value your tenants as anything more than a complete and utter revenue stream, but please remember that even renters are human and you cannot get blood from a turnip!UPDATE:I’ll absolutely be keeping my eye on the vultures that are PetScreening.com and have contacted my Secretary of State’s office regarding their shady business practices. Also, I have saved the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity district office phone number. I will also be contacting a local council member in the area who has been vigilantly working towards equitable housing rights for tenants to inform them of this predatory business model.***UPDATE 12/19/2023 IN RESPONSE TO PETSCREENING’S 12/18/2023 RESPONSE***So you guys went out of your way to look up my account as a result of my complaint online, but didn’t bother to email me personally to make it right? Not did you address A SINGLE ONE of my issues in your boilerplate response.I went back and realized that PetScreening had all my requisite information as of 12/1/2023, 50 minutes after they sent an an email requesting additional information. Still 12/7/2023 they email saying they needed the additional information. I submitted a comment 12/7/2023 stating I’d submitted the requisite info on 12/1/2023 and THEN PetScreening reached out to my Dr’s office. I got approval on 12/11/2023 but my rental agency had already charged me pet rent.My guess is that PetScreening “accidentally” misses A LOT of profile updates.
