I’ve been swimming at the Malden centre for around 30 years, always in the early morning lane swimming sessions. These always used to be a pleasure but over the past year the 6.30 slot has become increasingly unpleasant and very busy. They have swimming clubs several mornings a week and on these days limit the number of bookable swimming sessions to 20 but there are always more than 20 in the lane swimming lanes…presumably because there is no one on reception any more to check that people just don’t walk in (you could easily swim for free here). Lane discipline is not enforced by the lifeguards, people do fast crawl in the medium lane because the fast lane has been so restricted in size. Last week I arrived and in a reduced lane session where there are 20 spaces available there were 24 people in the pool…how does that work? Seriously thinking if finding somewhere else to swim.
