I’m always looking for new ways to increase my production as a writer, and a while back I came across something I thought looked very interesting, the Plaud Note. It is a credit card-sized voice recorder that uses AI to transcribe conversations, meetings, and voice memos into text.While I have and use a couple of digital recorders, I have found that I do not get very good output from them in transcription. As I shared in a blog post a few days ago, I have found that using the Wispr Flow app on my laptop computer is much more accurate than using a digital recorder, Dragon Speech-to-Text Software, or Microsoft Word’s dictation feature. But there are times when I’m away from my computer and would like to narrate a chapter or at least make notes of something. This is where I thought the Plaud Note would come in handy.I talked to some people online who use them, and they are all very impressed, so I decided to order one from Amazon to see how it would work for my needs. I’ve only played around with the Plaud Note a bit so far, but I’m very impressed with what I see. It features dual-mode recording for both phone calls and in-person conversations, 64GB of storage, and 30+ hours of battery life. The dictation I did so far with it has come out crystal clear, and when I transfer it to a Word document, I don’t have any errors. The starter plan includes 300 minutes of free narration a month, and there are paid subscriptions for more minutes. From what I’m seeing so far, I think it would be well worth upgrading to one of the plans that gives me unlimited minutes.
