I recently travelled with P&O Ferries on the Hull to Rotterdam route aboard the Pride of Hull (both outbound and return journeys), and overall the experience was comfortable, but there is room for improvement—especially for those travelling with pets.

I booked a pet-friendly cabin so my dog could stay with me rather than in the kennels, which I really appreciated. The cabin itself was of a reasonable standard size and suitable for a short overnight crossing.

However, I was quite disappointed with the pet facilities outside the cabin. The designated exercise area was very small, making it difficult for dogs to properly stretch their legs. More importantly, pets are not allowed in the public areas such as cafés. Since my dog was travelling with me in the cabin, I had expected there to be at least one indoor space where she could stay with me comfortably.

As a result, I found it quite upsetting having to leave my dog alone in the cabin whenever I wanted to visit the café or other onboard facilities. This somewhat defeated the purpose of booking a pet-friendly cabin in the first place.

I hope P&O Ferries will consider reviewing this policy and potentially introducing a designated pet-friendly area within at least one café or lounge. This would make a significant difference for passengers travelling with pets and greatly improve the overall experience.

Overall, a good journey, but with some important improvements needed for pet-friendly travel.
