I utilised a virtual mastercard via prepaiddigitalsolutions.com primarily because it was the default offering from my work employee recognition offering. Being given a prepaid card with the standard card number, expiration date and CVV felt very familiar, but after setting it up I quickly felt unsure where I'd actually be able to use the funds. Users have to create a digital wallet, share a fair amount of personal details and face a lot of warnings about money laundering and fraud, which combined is quite unsettling. Once it was all set up I found couldn't add the card to my smartphone wallet, and although the assurance is that the card works whether mastercard is accepted, I didn't feel confident that this was the case. The internet suggests that this card can only be used for online purchases which felt at odds with the "works wherever mastercard is accepted" pitch. I managed to quickly use the funds to purchase a gift card which felt like it had more real-world value, which only worked second time round after applying the second of two OTPs.Overall, this worked for me as I was able to achieve the end goal I wanted, but I felt exposed once the funds were tied up in the virtual card, without the usual backing that a bank provides in assuring you that your money can easily be accessed and used wherever you need it.Perhaps this isn't the right service for me, but I wouldn't rush to use it again. Having used it once I can't see a reason I would put my own money on a virtual card like this.
