Preply has a business model that puts their profit first and our learning as a low priority. Here are a few interactions you should know about before subscribing. 1.) I subscribed bc you have to to use any tutor. My tutor quit. I got an email saying I UNSUBSCRIBED AND my option now is TO TRANSFER MY BALANCE to another teacher!. Making me responsible for the change thats just NOT TRUE. They didnt offer a refund which would be proper business etiquette if what you paid for was discontinued by the platform. 2) They force you into montly payments and if you dont use the classes you in 28 days you lose them they keep your money!!. Not cool. 3) You are blind to a teacher's schedule until you pay then find out they are so busy you cant use what you paid. Again works for Preply not YOU!!!. 4) now im getting messages I changed a class time when in fact the teacher changed it.. so again they make the student responsible for changes they didnt make vs offering a refund. In summary. I used Preply 7 years ago and back then it was a useful learning tool. Today now they are subscription based .. you as student are really just an income stream locked into a monthly use or lose subscription that whenever Preply side makes a change.. you are told you did it and are responsible... im contesting my account at the moment and thats the last thing you need to consider 5) They offer you 100 dollars to invite friends. So i did that with my wife. She clicked the link.. it doesnt work.. so she subscribes thru the site. I point it out to them and they say sorry you dont get the referral. Thats a trap. I also clicked and tried the link later and exaxtly that it didnt work. I feel their business practices are not forthright and do not put learning first. Its about them earning first. They get your money then its your fight to get it back. Dont subscribe!! There are other platforms that are pay as you go. Im leaving Preply and going to use pay as you go. Save yourself a lot of financial loss and headache.
