ZERO STARS — if that were possible
If I could give Progressive zero stars, I would.
Progressive is alleging “fraud” and “misrepresentation” in my auto claim, not because of facts, not because of evidence — but because they are weaponizing “garaging” as a technical excuse to avoid paying a valid claim.
Here are the actual facts they are ignoring:
• Our car is registered, titled, inspected, and plated in New York
• We work in New York
• We pay rent in New York
• Our hospitals and medical care are in New York
• The vehicle is insured under a New York policy
• We have legal documentation proving we are temporarily staying elsewhere only to rent out a property
• I can provide letters from landlords, medical providers, and agencies confirming all of this
And here’s the most important part:
👉 The accident did NOT happen while the car was parked.
👉 It happened while the car was being DRIVEN during normal, lawful use.
There is nothing in an auto insurance policy that says coverage magically disappears based on where a car sleeps at night — especially when:
• the accident occurred while driving,
• within the coverage territory,
• during ordinary personal use.
By Progressive’s logic, if someone gets into an accident while driving in another state — North Carolina, New Jersey, anywhere — they should be denied because the car “wasn’t garaged correctly.” That’s absurd, and it’s not how auto insurance works.
Instead of acting in good faith, Progressive jumped straight to alleging fraud — a serious accusation — without proof, without intent, and without material misrepresentation. This feels less like an investigation and more like a strategy to scare policyholders into giving up.
We paid our premiums.
We were transparent.
We have documentation.
And yet Progressive’s response was to look for a loophole instead of honoring coverage.
Consumers should be extremely careful.
If you ever find yourself in a claim, be prepared for Progressive to reinterpret your life circumstances after the fact to avoid paying.
I strongly recommend: stay away from Progressive.
This experience has shown me how quickly an insurer can turn on its own customers when it’s time to actually provide coverage.
