You buy Quella because you want a bike that looks good in the city; one that has clean lines and the timeless style you associate with all that steel and chrome. You probably already know what a “fixie” is and would definitely describe Quella bikes as “roadsters”. You won’t get a fancy branded groupset or convenient quick release levers. It’s therefore not the most practical choice for people who can’t do very basic maintenance. You do get their signature eye-catching deep section wheels which add to the overall sturdy feel - because “only steel is real”. Only two things will survive a nuclear war; cockroaches and steel bikes. I hope they know how to ride.I would say the brand compares favourably on cost with other brands with a similar aesthetic like Pelago and Pashley. They can do this because the quality of the fixings and finishing components isn’t quite the same. The good news is, because you are the sort of rider who can ‘tinker’, you can use the money saved to get the upgrades you want and make your Quella unique. I love mine all the more because of the time I spent acquiring just the right bits and pieces to finish ‘her’ off.
