Maja log cabin

In late 2022 we were investigating the market to procure a timber building suitable for a modest clubhouse for our sports club. We wanted a building of 30m² to maximise floor space without having to seek planning permission from the local authority. We found the Maja log cabin on Quick Gardens website which seemed to meet our criteria. We requested a couple of existing customers contact details for references, these were readily provided and the references, although not for the Maja explicitly were favourable, particularly that they had constructed their buildings themselves. This gave us the confidence to pursue a purchase and to self-build.Before we ordered the Maja we requested a couple of customized changes i.e. no internal dividing partition and wooden doors on the left elevation rather than glass doors. These changes were approved however, when we received delivery 3 sets of glass doors were delivered rather than 2. I reported this and the replacement wooden doors were delivered within 3 weeks, which was great.We decided to use ground screws for mounting the base platform on, we hit hard stone/rock at approximately 800mm into the ground. We got around this issue by hiring a rock breaker which allowed us to drive the ground screws through the problem stoney ground. My recommendation would be to any future customer intending to use ground screws, that they make a couple of pilot holes to investigate the subsurface conditions.Once we had the ground screws installed and the base timbers in place we proceeded to the rest of the build which progressed quite speedily. We chose to have the rubber style roof for durability, this was easily installed when the weather was warm and dry.Constructive comments:• We thought the architects drawings could be improved, sometimes we needed to search through 3-4 pages to find the correct information• We felt that the timber roof trims and fascias were inadequate for the rubber style roof• We felt the screws provided were of poor quality, we purchased our own better quality screwsOverall, we are very pleased with our purchase and quality of the Maja log cabin.
