Rail Europe's so called "Refund Protection" appears to be scam. I purchased “Refund Protection” on my Rail Europe (Bolzano → Venezia S. Lucia, 08 Feb 2026). The order clearly shows “Refund Protection” as part of the transaction.
Refundable.me requested my booking confirmation on 27/02/2026. I supplied the full document set on 28/02/2026 and again on 03/03/2026, together with medical proof (ACL injury). I followed up on 04/03/2026. They have not replied.
Their escalation email addresses now bounce as non-existent. Therefore, I cannot progress the claim.
All buyers should be very careful. My Omio claim & refund for Venice to Milan was processed very efficiently by comparison.
Rail Europe has responded publicly to this review. However, their reply does not reflect what actually occurred.I did not simply “follow up afterward.” A claim was submitted to their refund protection partner, Refundable.me, exactly as instructed. On 27/02/2026 they requested my booking confirmation, which I provided on 28/02/2026 and again on 03/03/2026, together with medical certification for an ACL injury. I followed up again on 04/03/2026. No decision or response has been issued since.Rail Europe’s reply states that they have no visibility or control over the refund protection partner, yet simultaneously asserts that the claim would not qualify due to timing. These two positions are inconsistent.The core issue raised here is not disagreement over terms, but that the refund protection partner is non‑responsive and that published escalation email addresses bounce as non‑existent, leaving customers without a functional escalation path.As the merchant that sold the Refund Protection at checkout, Rail Europe remains the contracting party for that service. I am happy to update this review if the claim (8174BCAE) is actively progressed or a working escalation channel is provided.
