Review Time
I rarely, if ever, take the time to post a review, but with this experience I simply couldn’t do otherwise. Tonight I went to Lord of the Rings in Apeldoorn and it honestly felt like one big scam. Inexperienced, unprofessional musicians. Untuned instruments, poor timing, lack of dynamics, and many wrong notes. 65 minutes for €39 — it’s a big joke. If there had been an intermission, at least half the audience wouldn’t have come back. It was truly unbelievably bad.
We attended The Best of Adele by Candlelight expecting a professional, instrumental string quartet performance in a calm candlelit setting. Instead, after only a couple of songs, the musicians encouraged the audience to sing along — something that was never mentioned in the event description. This led to several people near the front singing loudly throughout the concert, drowning out the quartet and completely ruining the atmosphere. We did not pay to hear members of the public sing badly over the musicians. My parents had travelled all the way from Ireland to visit and this concert was meant to be a special evening for them. Instead, it was frustrating, embarrassing, and a huge let-down. We paid £80 for four tickets and left feeling misled and disappointed. We have requested a refund and I would strongly advise others to think twice before booking, as this event did not deliver what was promised.

We went to the Tim Burton concert by the Mystery Ensemble in the Zuiderkerk Amsterdam and and it was a huge disappointment. We paid 45 euros p.p. for a concert that lasted only an hour en was not at all the grand theatrical experience as was announced. It would be like as if we were stepping into a Tim Burton film, according to the advertisement. However, there was absolutely no Tim Burton atmosphere. The five young musicians soberly performed their numbers without saying anything about themselves, about the music, the films, or Burton. They played well, but it was boring en not at all worth such an expensive ticket. Supplement after reaction of Red Events: I appreciate your quick response, but I still feel like we payed way to much money for a sober concert that did'nt match te announcement. This is what was announced:Mystery Ensemble brings Burton’s worlds to life in unique arrangements. Expect soaring voices, bold instrumental colours, and an atmosphere that shifts in an instant — from the macabre to the magical, from the intimate to the epic. This is not just a soundtrack concert — it is a live theatrical experience. The mysterious magic of the concert will be created by the connection between the musicians and the surrounding architecture. Feel as if you are stepping inside a Tim Burton movie itself!GegevensDatum:13 februariTijd: 20:00 - 21:30
Ordered tickets for show in Manchester on 14th March 2026. Received an email stating the show would be re scheduled to a date I can't attend with an email address offered to resolve any disputes. Contacted them twice for a refund- hasn't been acknowledged. Raised as a dispute with my bank ..... should have looked at these awful reviews before booking!
The quality of this performance was such that I questioned if I’d accidentally booked to see a school performance. It was so uncomfortable to listen to that we left. This was marketed and priced for a professional level performance. The actual performance has serious tuning problems and amateur-level performance. This is the first time I have ever left a show before.
My husband and I just left the Hayao Miyazaki’s Dream by Mystery Ensemble in Edinburgh. Utterly appalling! Informed the ushers that they should not have this group back as the musicians were unprofessional and inexperienced. We were told that they had only just met today and that was the premise of the show. Regardless of this being the case “professional” musicians should by no means be making multiple mistakes during each piece. Complete disappointment.
I never really have the desire to write a review about anything, usually it’s not worth the effort. However, myself and my mum left the Mystery Ensemble’s Hayao Miyazaki's Dreams tonight after a few pieces. I’ve had to filter my reaction through the ‘am I being a pretentious professional musician lens’, and having done that, I’ve realised I am absolutely not being pretentious in what I’m about to say. To briefly summarise, the tuning was diabolical. Like, offensively bad. Perhaps these players are up and coming musicians, which is cool. I really wish them all the best on their journey towards becoming pro. But you simply cannot market this as a ‘professional’ gig. It wasn’t professional standard at all. I can say this as someone who has performed and toured at a professional standard for several years. It’s pretty disgraceful to witness something like this at 30 bucks a ticket. I hope the ensemble reconsider how they are marketing this show and ideally offer refunds.
We went to Carmina Burana in Ghent and it was not worth the money at all. We had front row seats because we wanted to enjoy the performance at its best. Last-minute they decided to let the performers stand next to the organist, meters high above the ground, so the front row had the worst experience. We paid 130 euro and saw nothing of the performance, at all ! On top, the acoustics were terrible, really awful. At least they should pay back what we paid extra for the most expensive seats as the back rows could at least see something. Red Events does not respond to my message and bad review. But I will keep on trying :-)... . UPDATE: after this review, the company finally answered me personnaly. Like their answer under every negative review, they put the problem in the shoes of the public, saying that "everyone’s expectations and perceptions are different". This is not correct at all: the performance objectively was really bad, with no view on the performers for the front rows and really, really bad acoustics. They don't care for music at all, they just want to make money selling it. It's an insult for music-lovers and for musicians.(Note that this is the very first time in my life that I write a bad review on anything. I just feel strongly about this negative experience.)
