I used Regus in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk for a short term coworking desk and would strongly advise anyone considering the same to look elsewhere.

To be fair, the actual office experience was fine. The building was a bit tired, but the person I shared the office with was very friendly, and the building owner was always pleasant when he dropped by. I have no real complaints about the space itself.

The problem was Regus admin and billing, which was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with any company.

I only needed a desk for one month, but was told I had missed some cut off by a day and would need to pay for two months instead. That already felt arbitrary. On top of that, I was not clearly warned about extra charges up front, including a joining fee. Regus seems to layer on fees and then point you to long and unclear terms and conditions when you challenge them.

I was also charged a “restoration fee” for a coworking desk, despite leaving no mess at all. The house rules appeared to refer to office suites, so it was never clear why this applied to a shared desk space. No one I spoke to could explain it properly.

I was then wrongly charged for teas and coffees for two months. Regus eventually agreed this was incorrect and that it should be refunded. My deposit was also delayed despite me following the process exactly.

From leaving the office just before Christmas to getting my deposit and refund sorted in mid March, I had to deal with seven different people, chase constantly by email, and repeatedly hear “I’ll escalate it”, which usually seemed to mean nothing happened. At one point I was simply ignored.

Based on my experience, Regus is not at all well suited to short term coworking. The office itself was acceptable, but the billing, fees and customer service were not. I also still do not think the joining fee and restoration fee were handled fairly, and I would welcome Regus reviewing those charges properly.
