I purchased my first Rigid long handle, round point shovel over 20 years ago. At the time it cost me a pretty penny but turned out to be well worth the money. I used it daily for several years and for the rest of its life it sat in the back of my Ute. The handle was light as well as strong. The 14-gauge heat treated steel blade was tough and never failed when I used for levering heavy sewer lids into place even though I should have been using a crowbar.After 20 years of neglect the shovel was worn and the handle started to crack and get wrinkly. I had to look around for a replacement as Bunnings does not stock them. I nearly replaced it with an Australian made Cyclone shovel but found it to be too heavy. I ended up finding a replacement at Total Tools in Canning Vale for $69. Much cheaper then the price I paid 20 years ago. My original Ridgid shovel had Made in Mexico/Assembled in the USA stamped on it but my replacement shovel had a sticker stating that it was assembled in the USA from imported materials. So now I have no idea where my new shovel was originally made. This matters to me as I’d prefer to support a country that has similar freedoms and democratic values as my own, instead of a communist regime that has an Aggressive Foreign Policy towards its neighbours. So I’ll be taking off one star for this shortcoming. My new shovel also feels a little bit heavier then my original.All in all Ridgid make a great long lasting shovel. This shovel should outlast me.
