I recently sold a bottle of rum with Rum Auctioneer. It sold and I was initially happy with the sale. I waited for payment as per usual. The day before the next auction started I realised that although I had been charged a fee to sell my bottle, I’d not been paid.I rang the next day (Friday morning) first thing and they put me on hold - and said they would call me back. Nobody rang and the next auction began. Monday afternoon I contacted them again, to be told the bottle had not sold as the buyer had not paid. That part I get. Things happen. I had no e mail regarding the bottle following the sale - I had to chase bad news - and I missed the next auction date as I had no idea it hadn’t sold. Contacting me earlier would have allowed me to relist the bottle. It takes 2 minutes to write an e mail to explain briefly what’s happened. The bottle sold for £1150 so it’s not pocket money. Even if it was a £50 bottle I would still assume out of pure courtesy and respect I would be informed.I know of another seller in this auction who also didn’t get paid - and has been treated in the same manner, as they informed me. Shockingly poor, pathetic communication and a lack of people skills. I have dealt with many auction houses and to say I’m upset and annoyed is an understatement. In a time of mass market turbulence perhaps taking a stuffy, corporate approach maybe isn’t the best option.
