As a whole, this institution lacks a lot and does seem to unfortunately be going in the wrong direction. This review comes from my experience studying and working at the Brisbane campus.Equipment is not kept up-to-date and in good repair; teachers form cliques I witnessed them mocking students work (more on that below); admin faculty lack basic skills required to do many of their tasks; and upper management care so little about these that they will not act upon complaints or concerns. While volunteering at an open day to introduce prospective students to the campus, I was sitting with two senior teachers who were openly mocking the work of some of their existing students. One (different) senior lecturer told a small cohort of students that he could have people blacklisted from the film industry so that they will not be able to get jobs once they graduate. He implied he's done this before, and used it as a warning to the class to show him respect. This same teacher used his platform during an early lecture to criticise the #MeToo movement and what it has done to film industry figures.Ultimately SAE has not kept up with the changing industries it teaches, the requirements for creating job-ready graduates, or wider society. By employing and empowering people who seem to revel in their "old-school Hollywood" ideas of what the Film & TV industry is, it's reinforcing the toxic and dangerous mindsets that have come in generations previous.Aside from these soft-skill shortcomings, there is also still a concerning lack of experience and actual technical ability from many teaching staff members. In many instances, teachers demonstrated no more knowledge than a devices instructional manual could provide.
