My overall experience has been positive, primarily due to collaborative efforts with fellow students. However, there were challenges regarding equipment availability and maintenance. The course leans more towards directors and producers; having specialized pathways would enhance engagement and allow for a deeper focus on specific filmmaking interests. There's a need for more emphasis on production design and props, which are currently lacking in the curriculum. While I understand the importance of equitable access to resources, recent limitations on booking equipment have made it challenging to be flexible during projects. Nonetheless, the environment is creatively empowering, supported by the school and faculty, and I'm confident you'll create amazing projects and connect with talented filmmakers.
The postgraduate program offers remarkable flexibility, allowing for self-paced exploration. The staff have consistently encouraged creative projects and ideas. Studying remotely has been advantageous, enabling me to balance classes while on tour.
I faced exclusion after reporting incidents of harassment and bullying. Throughout my time, I experienced ongoing harassment. I was discouraged from seeking help by peers in positions at the institution, whom I had hoped to trust, but they only exacerbated the situation. Once I reported my experiences, the support was minimal, and those responsible for the harassment still hold positions of influence.
My time studying Games at SAE in Perth has been largely positive. The staff are welcoming, and the campus is vibrant with numerous social activities. While the Games course has undergone significant changes recently, which has created some complications, both students and faculty have adapted well. My lecturers have been knowledgeable and deeply passionate about games.
During my studies at SAE, I engaged in various courses that not only focused on game development but also offered insights into the creative arts. I learned the fundamentals of game creation and explored VR and AR development. Additionally, the creative arts curriculum enhanced my critical thinking and provided inspiration applicable to media studies. My experience here was enjoyable, and I feel well-prepared for a career as a versatile game developer.
I strongly recommend studying at this institution for anyone interested in film production. My experience from 2019 to 2020 laid a solid foundation for my career. I now work as a Producer in a major department, creating trailers for upcoming shows. At this institution, I worked hands-on with professional-grade equipment, greatly enhancing my confidence and skills. Many lecturers were industry professionals, providing valuable insights into current practices and job market preparation. The community is vibrant, fostering collaboration and networking opportunities among students. The teaching approach is comprehensive and inclusive, catering to varying levels of experience. Facilities are accessible for both academic and personal projects, which is a fantastic resource. However, success relies on one's attitude and dedication. While the institution offers tools and guidance, the industry’s competitive nature means that securing a job post-graduation requires determination and effort. This institution equipped me with the skills and confidence needed to thrive professionally, and I am grateful for the opportunities it provided.
