Fortunately, I managed to get a response from the company based in the US, and they asked if I wanted to return the doorbell camera. I told them I wouldn't send back a non-functional electronic item and bear the postage costs, just for them to repackage it for resale to another unsuspecting customer. I also suggested they should consider offering compensation, rather than the 35% provided to another customer. Since I reported this to the trade agency in the US, they should expect a visit from those agencies.
