They refused to honour their quoted price, claiming that the catalytic converter in the vehicle was not original. Because of this, they reduced their offer by £210. At no point during my telephone conversation did they ask about the catalytic converter, despite the fact that it is an expensive component that could materially affect the price.
In my experience, their business practices are highly questionable. They provide very competitive quotes online or over the phone, but appear to have little intention of paying the quoted amount.
Once the car is loaded onto their lorry, the customer is asked to sign a contract stating that the vehicle will be taken away for inspection and that an offer will be made the following day. If the customer refuses to sign, they are immediately presented with a £150 haulage fee.
After the contract is signed and the vehicle has been taken away, they then present a significantly lower offer. The vehicle is supposedly held at a distant location and they refuse to provide photographic evidence of the alleged non-original catalytic converter. If the customer declines the revised offer, they are told there is a £150 release fee and that they must collect the vehicle from this distant location.
The salvage company “ECO Salvage,” which supposedly purchased my car, does not appear to exist as a legitimate business. I believe Scrap Car Comparison may be facilitating or enabling this process.
Once further company details were requested, for legal action, they relented and significantly increased their offer!!
