It seems strange reviewing a holiday company for a holiday you didn't get to go on but these are strange times. We first used Selective Asia for our honeymoon back in 2011. They had been recommended by a colleague and we had a superb time from booking to coming home, so when we had a little money for a trip to Sri Lanka - and now with two young kids in tow we decided to approach them. Firstly they are the only company who quoted us a holiday within the budget we'd set. Every other company out there went significantly over our (already generous) budget. Our expert Andrew, listened carefully to what we wanted and took into consideration the age of our children and put together a superb itinerary. We booked back in September 2019 and looked forward to our trip Easter 2020. Fast forward 6 months and Coronavirus comes and changes the world. So, my 5 star review is not based on our holiday as following FCO guidance, it was cancelled, but on the way Selective Asia has treated us. They have kept us informed and educated through out the process. They have called me regularly (unlike my insurer who I will deal with in a very different review) and spoke to me as an individual and as a valued customer. A long story short - our insurer won't pay out - playing off on an technicality of an EU directive and whilst I continue to pursue them Selective Asia have done everything in their power to recoup our funds. The fact is we will have lost money on this - however it's nothing compared to what so many people are going through today. Whilst my multi million pound insurance agency might point the finger of responsibility to my travel agent - morally this just feels wrong - to expect a small business to cover these losses seems to defeat the point of having insurance. So whilst I didn't get my holiday - or all my money back (so far - I'm not giving up on my insurer yet) - I honestly can't say a bad word about Selective Asia and in particular Andrew our consultant and when the world gets back to normal - they will be my first port of call. Their customer service has been superb. None of us were prepared for Coronavirus and there is much out our control right now - however we can control how we behave and treat one another during this time - and with that in mind it can only be 5 stars.
