Bought a SHIRE Arbor via Wickes in July, I do not recommend it. There were several broken and split pieces of wood and more than a dozen sharp protruding nails on the bench pieces. We assembled what we could and they offered to replace 11 parts, the other damaged parts we were expected to fix ourselves at our own expense with no compensation. Unfortunately the roof supports were shorter than advertised, and so when made into a square as per the instructions you are left 1.2 cm short, which means there is no way to attach to the pointed roof structure. Hours of fiddling to get the screws as close as possible to the edges without splitting the wood and it is still impossile, Glue is impossible as the planks simply do not reach the surface supposed to be attached to. I will need to have 4 pieces of wood machined to the correct length at my own expense, or just have some weird looking arbor with no roof. They have repeatedly sent out spare parts which were exactly the same as the faulty parts (the definition of madness - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result) They point blank refuse to give any compensaton for the extra glue, filler, metal grinding, hours of carpentry etc. The high point was when they sent me two planters as an apology gift, which arrived addressed to other people (returns) and riddled with black mould. Since they have sent spare parts AND an apology gift they consider their work done and appear to have washed their hand of me. As I ordered through Wickes I tried to get Wickes to address the issue, but other than making Shire respond to emails (which up til then they had been ignoring) Wickes dont really want any part of it. I have referred to the Ombudsman and I still have no arbor, half of it is sitting in the garden being rained on and I have dozens of spare parts to dispose of as well as two asthma-inducing mould ridden planters. I wish I had taken notice of the awful reviews of this company, but the arbor looked so pretty in the picture. I wasted £450. I'm devastated and just hoping ther ombudsman will help me, but also disgusted that Shire have let it get that far,

Shire Garden Buildings built around our reputation. Shire have been producing garden buildings since 1981. Initially we utilised the skill our workforce possessed when we stopped producing Yachts and started to make Garden Buildings. We have consistently expanded over the years, skills have been passed on and our factories and warehouses now occupy some 20 acres. We have invested in the best equipment and have facilities that include a planing mill, self-contained joinery production, undercover timber store and large warehouses that can hold some 20,000 buildings in stock.See more
