They literally have to be bidding on their own items in order to drive up the price. You will NEVER be the only bidder. If you happen to be the lone bidder on an item and the bidding is about to close, a mystery bidder will always jump in to make the price higher. If their bid is still lower than your max bid, you pay more. If their bid exceeds your max, obviously they wont make the sale but it's more than a coincidence that you will see the same item relisted again within a week. This happened to me at least 3 different times and when I contacted them, they said it's because the winning bidder failed to pay. Every single time??? The only explanation is they have some sort of unwritten "reserve price" on certain items and have in-house bidding to make sure they hit that price. They squeeze every single dollar. It may be legal but it sure is unethical
