I do NOT recommend this car rental company.
Our experience with Sicily by Car in Venice was extremely disappointing and felt deceptive.
We booked a Class “regular car” through the app for two days. During the booking process, we were shown only one available vehicle (marked as the last one at that price). When proceeding to payment, the total suddenly increased by €80. I assumed this was a refundable deposit, as the app did not clearly explain what this additional charge was for. It was impossible to complete the booking without agreeing to this extra €80 charge.
Even the staff seemed confused about where the extra €80 charge came from at first, initially saying my card was not valid because it wasn’t credit (which was incorrect), and later admitting the amount was for insurance.
At the office, we were told that the €80 was not a deposit, but full insurance coverage. Nowhere in the app was this clearly stated. The booking interface is confusing and misleading, making it very easy to unknowingly purchase full insurance.
When I asked to cancel the insurance, I was told it was impossible. Refund was not guaranteed and would only be considered in extreme cases (illness or death). We were essentially forced to accept the insurance because no other cars were available and we had travel plans early the next morning.
To make matters worse, when we arrived to collect the car, we were offered a small 3-door Fiat instead of the standard 4-door vehicle shown in the app. We were told the car displayed online was “just an example” and that we would receive whatever was available. This was shocking.
After insisting, they provided a different car as an “upgrade.” However, the replacement vehicle had visible damage from previous accidents and was not clean. When I pointed out the damage, the employee said: “Don’t worry, you have full insurance.” That response clearly shows why they push customers into buying full coverage — they are renting out damaged vehicles.
The car was not in proper condition, there is no garage or proper cleaning facility, and the entire process felt manipulative.
Unfortunately, this experience negatively affected our impression of Italy and our road trip.
I strongly advise others to be extremely careful when booking through the app — or better yet, avoid this service entirely.
