I've had a Skuma Water machine for three months now, it replaced my previous Osmio Zero. What I like about it: control of mineral dosing, cold water dispensing stops immediately, you can raise the platform to different heights, it's easy to change the filter, it has a self-flushing mechanism, you can adjust the dispense volume, it looks smart and refills quickly.However, there are many things that disappoint me. The main issue is that the maximum temperature I can get out of it (even with the secret setting on maximum) is 60° which is no good for tea or coffee. It seems to forever need emptying, implying that it wastes a lot of water. The User Interface is totally counter-intuitive. For example, the secret button to lock the temperature is not achieved by holding down the temperature button for a few seconds, but the minerals button. To initiate the minerals, you don't hold down the minerals button, you hold down the volume button. The minerals you can turn on and off, though this seems to come on and off randomly by itself anyway. The quantity of water dosed is inaccurate and inconsistent. When dispensing hot water, you cannot stop it immediately, this is a quite dangerous and unnecessary behaviour. It doesn't seem to have an internal thermometer but relies on a setting to guess how much to heat water. When you are dispensing water, the big blue drop light flashes, but if you stop it before it's finished and it's off, it stays off. This is a small point, but indicates to me a lack of thorough testing. The Quick Start guide was useless and failed to mention several essential points. It doesn't tell you that it needs emptying or refilling until you try to dispense, because the lights go out. It's difficult to handle the freshwater tank because there's no handle on it. It needs very careful and deliberate dropping into place, otherwise the pump runs but it fails to draw water.But the thing that puts me off most is the cost of the minerals. They are vastly over-priced, the cheapest being £11.50 for 25g. They are mostly magnesium, which can be sourced for less than a tenth of that and I object to the significant amount of plastic packaging used for such a small quantity of product. The minerals need replacing about one per week, which is a fiddly and time-consuming process if you do it properly.
