The U1 is hard to define but in a good way. It's not a super amazing over engineered feat of genius — but it does stands up to heavy scrutiny.
In short... IT ROCKS.
Why?
They've taken the best of what's out there in the world, listened to the most common complaints from real, long time 3D printing nerds, and cost averaged the best way to resolve a design that's both great and inexpensive to build.
Does that affect the quality of the end product?
Not where it matters in my experience (to date).
Is there room for improvement that could make it a higher build quality and functionally smarter?
Yes.
However, by comparison to my other x4 3D printers of similar or more cost, this one delivers 'more' overall in both performance and quality for both the end prints and the level of control due to Orca Slicer.
Do I wish they bundled the lid/heat capture chamber — of course. But an IKEA bin works too.
Do I wish the plastic panels on the sides were slight thicker and stiffer. Yup.
But none of those things have had an impact on the overall experience, output quality and configurability when printing.
The colour changing is mint, the overall speed is fantastic and the ability to tune prints and print heads is really well thought out.
I would buy this again in a heartbeat. Worth the cost and more by comparison to Bambu and Creality.
