THE GOOD PARTI rented a house and discovered after a year that I was being charged for waste water. The property has it's own septic tank so I shouldn't have been charged.I contacted them and after a few weeks got a refund. So far so good.THE BAD PARTSThe refund was enough for about 18 months of bills so I was surprised to see they had changed the Direct Debit to a higher amount than before. In April I asked them to reduce it to a nominal £12. I heard nothing and the Direct Debit was attempted at the higher amount. I cancelled it, retrieved the payment and complained by email. The following month they reinstated the Direct Debit at the higher amount so I cancelled and retrieved the payment again. It was then reinstated and set to £12 for the following month. I am sure that they can't reset a Direct Debit without my explicit consent so I cancelled the DD again and sent an email asking about this. They ignored the consent part and simply said that they had changed the amount. The DD hasn't been requested since but at the start of September I received a response to my April email saying very little but crediting the account with £25. This is 5 months later!!Needless to say I responded quite critically but I guess it'll take another 5 months t get any response.I'm leaving the property now and I still have a credit balance. I wonder how long a refund is going to take.
