I paid £350 for an overnight spa voucher for the Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa, in the Lake District, through spa seekers in October 2025 as a gift for my partner to be activated on Christmas Day of 2025.
Upon trying to redeem the voucher code, on spaseekers’ website, it wouldn’t work. I called spaseekers directly and they said that the prices fluctuate due to busy times in the year, which is expected. But this means that the date we are looking at has an additional price of £146 on top of the pre paid £350 and the voucher doesn’t cover it. However, they offered 7% discount on the £146. 7%?! So there’s still an additional cost of £136 to cover the stay. They offered I choose another night, perhaps another Friday in the year since I paid extra for the voucher to be used ANY FRIDAY in the year up until Christmas day 2026. But it doesn’t mean any Friday, there’s no price protection for the items you pay for, stopping you from using them regardless of what you pay. They also said that it’s due to the maximum price of what I could be paying at the time of purchasing the voucher. But they know that the prices surge at certain times of the year and said that MacDonald have upped their prices in January. Perhaps they do this every year, who knows, but this won’t be something they found out the day it happened. They knew ahead of time, offered the voucher at the price displayed on their website, and still allow you to buy it knowing prices may increase and you can’t use the item you’re paying for without paying extra. No email was sent at the time the prices increased either.
So the other options are book any other Friday at a time of year you don’t want to/can’t go, go any other day in the week barring weekends because the prices increase, or book another spa with them directly on the phone using a money credit scheme, as long as it adds up to the price you’ve paid for the voucher.
The inconvenience, lack of communication, disregard/lack of care for the fact you pay a lot of money for something are reasons I won’t be using spaseekers again. They offer no other options to assist in this.
