I read multiple positive reviews on this particular location of Specsavers in Coulby Newham and they are all true. People are so kind and welcoming there. The only problem I had with my visit was that the glasses they made for me didn't work. I was not able to see anything on the computer screen not I was able to read the street signs while driving. Basically the new glasses were WORSE than the old ones. After I shared it on Facebook two friends said they experienced same problem, they got wrong glasses but instead of being checked again, they were encouraged to try them for two weeks to get used to them. I got my first set of varifocals 10 years ago from a small family optician and they felt perfectly straight away. But 5 years ago I was tempted to try with Specsavers in Coulby Newham, tempted by the prices. Indeed they are really cheap. The glasses I got 5 years ago were not great but I did not want to cause any trouble and I forced myself to wearing them. In some aspects they were good in other less good. After 5 years, long overdue I decided to change them. The optician at the test told me that my eye sight improved and I don't need that sharp glasses anymore. They didn't clearly tell me where to hold the pattern while selecting close distance. So these were messed up as well, they felt like looking through a distorting magnifying glass. After I came back and told them about it all, they didn't want to re measure me but told me to try to use them for two weeks. But I said I was driving home and didn't see the street signs so how can they get better over time. They said I don't need to see that clearly. I could not accept it. I checked myself old vs new glasses and it was clear they were not right. All the talk about getting used to is a disgrace! It is an abuse. If you don't see clearly, and need to weeks to get used to it, how can the eye test work in an instant?! They chose the appropriate lenses based on an instand decision but then you need two weeks for them to start working. I have never heard such terrible advice. If someone says thy don't see clearly they should re-measure first to check! Trying to push you to get used to it is not justified. Maybe if you get first glasses, or first varifocals yes it is weird. But not if these are just an upgrade which means to be better. They were clearly defensive and tried to push their bad product on me. After I wrote a bad review eleswhere, they called me and told me I can come over to discuss, not to remeasure but to discuss . And again they said to avoid comparing with old glasses and try new ones. This convinced me. I went there not knowing what to do but I decided I don't trust them anymore. They tested me in rush and their first instinct was to push it on me and keep trying. What chances would I have that they will test it better now? If they re do it and the new glasses are still bad but the difference will not be as pronounced, I may end up with bad glasses but forced to get used to them. And it is harder to return them after they tried again because you feel bad for them. I returned them, I went to a small family optician. They test took three times longer. The price was higher for same standard for one pair than for two pairs at Specsavers but the measurement was different. They told me Specsavers overcooked it. Specsavers returned money for glasses but not for the test. Taking into account that the outcome of the test was bad, I think they should return the money for the test as well. In the end I wonder whether different Specsavers may be better especially with such low prices, but I am not returning to Coulby Newham branch.
