Serious concerns regarding NHS patient experience at Specsavers Greenford (UB6 9PU)
I am writing this negative review in good faith and in the public interest. I am 59 years old and do not write lightly or with hostility. My intention is not to accuse or deceive, but to seek fairness, transparency, and proper standards for NHS patients, particularly those who may be vulnerable.
I attended the Specsavers branch at 20 The Broadway, Greenford, following a GP referral for NHS-funded audiology services. I would like to expressly thank my GP for his professionalism and care over many months; I have no complaint whatsoever regarding my GP or the referral process.
I was fitted with NHS-funded hearing aids which were tested using computer-based equipment both at the time of fitting and again after use. Despite this testing, the hearing aids provided no functional improvement, produced constant background noise, and caused discomfort. No effective NHS-funded alternatives were offered, and I was informed that hearing aids which would improve my hearing were available only through private purchase at significant cost.
During the optical sales process, I was not permitted to independently view or compare NHS-eligible frames or pricing, and I experienced pressure to make decisions quickly. This lacked transparency and informed choice.
I raised these concerns with staff at the time. I do not attribute blame to individual employees; my concerns relate to management practices and oversight.
I call on company management and senior oversight to thoroughly review internal procedures, staff conduct, and any available in-store records, including surveillance where applicable, to ensure compliance with company policy and NHS obligations. A proper and transparent internal review is warranted, as the issues I have observed raise serious concerns about the treatment of NHS patients and the potential prioritisation of sales over patient care.
I will continue to raise these concerns in the public interest so that the NHS and relevant authorities are aware. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this branch to NHS patients who may struggle to advocate for themselves.
