He issued an ultimatum—either my son sever this non-essential personal tie or be denied care. This refusal has severely impacted my son’s mental well-being and is an egregious breach of professional ethics.A mental health professional’s duty is, first and foremost, to provide competent care to individuals who are suffering, regardless of their background, beliefs, or personal associations that are non-clinical in nature. This refusal is the professional equivalent of refusing to help someone in crisis because the clinician personally disapproves of a non-essential lifestyle choice. It is inexcusable.The fact that Spring Health maintains a platform that allows its providers to substitute personal prejudice for patient care speaks volumes about the organization’s integrity and oversight. Instead of making our situation better, this incident has compounded our stress and made my son feel worse.We are actively filing a formal ethical complaint against Mr. Thompson’s license.
