Today, my mother and I endured one of the most humiliating and confusing experiences in a store, specifically at a location in Costa Rica. My mother tried on a few items, and when she came out, there were ripped tags on the floor from before her arrival. An employee checked and suggested it was linked to another staff member. My mother clarified her innocence, and we continued shopping. After purchasing our items, the alarm went off, which affected many shoppers. Staff inspected our bags and found nothing amiss. However, as we left a nearby store, a security guard from the original store insisted on escorting us back, claiming they just wanted to ask questions. Instead, they accused my mother of theft and claimed they had video evidence, despite: • If there was a real video, it should have shown her entering and exiting with the supposed item. • The fitting room employee should have seen the item during their check. • Our bags had been inspected and were empty. • No item was ever found with us. Lacking any evidence, they pressured my mother to pay for something she did not take. We were treated disrespectfully, denied a chance to understand their so-called evidence, and publicly embarrassed. This experience was deeply humiliating and utterly unnecessary. We left feeling disappointed, especially as we had previously shopped there and had planned to continue. We will not return; no customer deserves such treatment, especially without proof or basic respect.
