I had a few lightweight pieces of wicker patio furniture I needed removed. Even for a small job, junk removal companies quoted me $150 plus. I decided to give TaskRabbit a try for the first time to try and save some money. The first person I found cancelled the appointment without any messages. TaskRabbit suggested another tasker for me to rebook with, so I did. That Tasker then messaged me saying he assumed I had hired multiple people and if one of the other people I hired could bring a truck. Seriously? So I cancelled him and was connected with a third tasker. This tasker's rate was around $70/hr, but that was still far less than the $150 from moving companies. Or so I thought. An outrageous percentage is charged for a "trust fee" and the hourly rate went to almost $100. That was still saving about $50 though, so I proceeded. When I got the final invoice, the tasker charged me for 1.75 hours despite being at my house for less than 10 minutes and the nearest dump being only 30 minutes away. My total cost for this job ended up over $200. Absolutely not worth it. Even worse, TaskRabbit's practices feel deliberately shady and misleading. They present prices that are MUCH lower than what they actually charge once they add 30%+ in fees, and dishonest billing practices for time exacerbate the issue. I deleted the app right away. Not a company I would ever do business with again- very shady and clearly not a company that is concerned about the quality of the service it provides.
